SOUTH KINGSTOWN - As of Oct. 1, the Shady Acres Nursing Home has received a new name along with new management.

The nursing home, renamed Kingston Center for Rehabilitation and Health Care, is now under the management of Centers Health Care, a healthcare company based in Bronx, NY, with facilities in New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island.

“It is becoming increasingly more difficult for smaller companies with one or two facilities to survive,” explained Jeffrey Jacomowitz, public relations manager of Centers Health Care. “Bringing Shady Acres into the Centers Health Care family provided a means by which the previous ownership could ensure that their residents were well cared for.”

Initially, there will be few changes to the facility, Jacomowitz said, adding that the first step will be to assess the condition of the staff and services provided at the facility.

“Many important changes that will be made aren’t visible to the casual observer,” he added. “Clinical training to be sure the staff maintains the level of expertise we require will be one of the first areas to see some changes. We want to be sure that our team is up to date with the most current care protocols.”

The building will also be evaluated to determine whether any upgrades are needed.

The Shady Acres Nursing Home is the third facility in Rhode Island to be taken over by Centers Health Care, with Bannister House in Providence being the first.

“And we expect to add additional facilities in the future,” Jacomowitz added.

Jacomowitz said that the name of the facility was changed to reflect the location of the facility as well as the variety of services offered.

“The future of Kingston Center is bright,” Jacomowitz said. “We’re committed to ensuring that our residents enjoy a vibrant lifestyle.”
