Centers Health Care Announces the Winner of the 2017 Centers Patient Advocacy Award

Angela Heller, Social Worker at New York Presbyterian, is the recipient of the 2017 Centers Patient Advocacy Award

The Centers Health Care family, one of the largest and most complete post-acute health care continuums in the northeast, announced the recipient of the 2017 Centers Health Care Patient Advocacy Award is Ms. E. Angela Heller.

Ms. Heller, a Social Worker in the Oncology department at New York Presbyterian Hospital at Columbia University Medical Center for more than three decades, was one of 35 highly experienced social workers nominated for this award.  Ms. Heller will receive $2,500, plus a $2,500 check as a gift to the Pancreas Center at the hospital.

"Ms. Heller is a superb social worker with exceptional professional skills and personal qualities," said Martin W. Oster, MD, at Columbia University Medical Center.  "My patients have received wonderful, compassionate help, advice from Angela in dealing with the many overwhelming challenges that cancer and its treatment present."

After receiving her Bachelor's Degree in English Language and Literature/Letters from St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana in 1980, she received her Master's in Social Work from Indiana University – Purdue University at Indianapolis in 1984.  She began her career at the hospital in June 1986. 

"I am very honored to be this year's award winner," said Ms. E. Angela Heller.  "The pancreas group I facilitate at the hospital has had a profound effect on me. This is a devastating disease and the patients who are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer have shown me the true meaning of love, bravery and resilience."
