Centers Health Care, a Key Sponsor at the 2017 WARM Center's New Year's Day "Penguin Plunge"

- January 2, 2017

Centers Health Care, the leading continuum of more than 30 nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities in the northeast, donated $500 to Westerly Area Rest Meals Inc. (WARM) Center at its’ 11th annual Penguin Plunge at Misquamicut Beach outside the Andrea yesterday. Under a bright sunny sky, yesterday's plunge included over 200 brave beach goers splashing and having fun in 47 degree ocean water. Proceeds from the Plunge benefit for the WARM Center in Westerly, designed to provide shelter and meals to the homeless throughout southern Rhode Island and eastern Connecticut.

“We are so delighted that Centers Health Care was a sponsor this year’s plunge," said Joy Cordio, Events & Volunteer Coordinator at the WARM Center. "As 2017 marks our 30th year as an organization, every year we are there to help our homeless and needy. This is what we are all about.”

WARM Inc., which was incorporated on December 15, 1987, works with a number of area churches and shelters targeted to aid the community’s most vulnerable citizens, spanning more than 20 communities in Rhode Island and Connecticut.

"Centers has a close relationship with the WARM Center and is a key sponsor of this year's Penguin Plunge," said Denise Romano, Regional Director of Admissions & Marketing For Rhode Island at Centers Health Care. "With our two locations in Providence and one in West Kingston, we fully believe in the message that the WARM Center is there to help the homeless and those who are in need."

Following yesterday's chilly Plunge, the WARM Center provided a hot lunch for all beach goers. In addition to Centers Health Care, radio stations "The Wolf 102.3" and WBLQ AM 1230, were also 2017 sponsors. Registered Plungers received the 11th Annual Penguin Plunge long sleeve t-shirt, as well as sweatpants from Centers Health Care. The WARM Center have also asked for donations, such as water shoes, for those who cannot commit to plunging.

The Bannister Center and Park View Center in Providence, and the Kingston Center in West Kingston, are the three Rhode Island facilities in the Centers Health Care family.
